    Natives In A Foreign Land

Hello again… So, I recently mastered the new Jon Hans ep, entitled “Natives In A Foreign Land”. Jon and I have been working together for years, and I’m continuously impressed by his growth as a songwriter. On this latest offering, Jon moved to Nashville hoping to challenge himself, and branch out a bit. Leaving the comforts of home in Los Angeles, he teamed up with a trio of producers, who helped him achieve his goal. The ep, a departure from his more rootsy/americana sound, is something more complex; exploring more etherial sounds, world beat rhythms, and dense vocal textures. Instantly, it made me think of records produced by Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno. Whether you’ve heard Jon’s music or not, I highly recommend giving this a listen when it is released (tbd).

    2 weeks 2 shows

    #1 Jonsi

    jonsi2

I love the morning. I love them because every extraordinary day starts as a normal day. I have to shamefully admit, I had no idea Jonsi was in town let alone had tickets to go. I was on my way to San Diego, but thank God I called my buddy Steve who was at the show and told me I needed to take the next exit immediatly and get over there. After many phone calls, near fender benders, google maps, and a lot of speeding, I picked up my girlfriend and roomate and made it only missing the opening song. Was it worth it? I don’t want to ruin it with my words, so the best I can do is:

    Best concert of my life.

    #2 Mumford And Sons

Mumford and Sons was more planned, and Nina and I were looking forward to it as they had become #1 in the “album you sing at the top of your lungs in your car” of 2010.  I bypassed the show in LA and took Nina up to San Francisco for our one year anniversary. Its kind of where our story started, so we headed up the grape vine to the city by the bay. Concert Review? SO FUN! They are as good if not better live. I can’t believe they play half there songs without a drummer. Suggestion #1- even if you have seats, go down to the general standing area where people are into it, that would have made it more of an experience. Suggestion #2 don’t see them in San Francisco the week before the Giants are about to win the world series for the first time in forever. Other than that, I can’t think of a better way to spend an evening :)

    Moving to Nashville

Saying “goodbye” is always bitter-sweet. I will be the first to say I love Los Angeles and always will. Thank you to all my friends who have become family. But life is always changing and my life continues to be one big gust of wind. Music has lead me to Music City USA, Nashville Tennessee. I write with excitement at what is in store. Los Angeles, I love you and will see you again. Nashville, here I come and I’m looking forward to getting to know you!
